36353392 - female hands giving red heartSeptember is National Recovery Month in the United States. Whether you live in the US or not, this is a great opportunity for us as recovery coaches to reach out to our communities and push for change. Whether you’re looking to do something large or something small to help promote recovery, we have some suggestions for you. Let’s all take some time this month to promote recovery in our homes, neighborhoods, and communities.

Participate in community recovery events.

This month there is plenty going on in cities and communities around the country. Visit SAHMSA.gov for event listings or to be inspired for events you might help organize in the future: https://www.recoverymonth.gov/events

Share your story as a recovery coach.

As recovery coaches, we all have a story to share. We can share our own unique paths toward becoming a recovery coach, or we can share a story we’ve heard from someone else we know. Many people still don’t know the role recovery coaches play. This is a great opportunity to educate others.

Get involved in your local government.

This could mean becoming a member of or starting a community action group, support a local official pushing for more recovery funding, or encourage your local government to sign a proclamation to support recovery. Do something that will make your local government leaders understand how important recovery is.

Share support hotlines and information on social media.

We can share information about recovery and support hotlines all year long. But during National Recovery Month, those you’ve connected with on social media may be more inclined to listen or pay attention. Sharing something on social media is free, easy, and quick.

There are things we can all do to help promote support, safety, and recovery during this month. Let’s all do our part to help those around us who may feel alone or lost. We hope you are able to enjoy this time to be a voice in your communities.

We offer training and certification programs created for Counselors, Therapists, Professional Coaches and all others seeking a specialty in Addiction Recovery Life Coaching.
